According to the DMLBS the word is a rendering of Welsh priodawr, derived from Latin proprietarius. See GPC (A Dictionary of the Welsh Language) sub priod, sense d. ‘true owner or possessor’ (which, incidentally, suggests Latin privatus as the etymon. The original document is part of the Court Rolls of Denbigh (Wales).
