(troet) (1121-35)

[hp+gdw]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

The form troet has been considered an Anglo-Norman hapax by different scholars and dictionaries (See Trotter David, "La précocité scientifique de l’anglo-normand: le cas de Philippe de Thaon." In: Comptes rendus des séances de l'Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, 159e année, N. 2, 2015, pp. 813-835, p.826). AND1 considered troet a form of *troga- (see FEW 17,370a ‘Anorm. troet 'auge’ PhThBest; TL 10,672 ‘Tröglein’), based on the Best1 edition. However, this form does not come from an Anglo-Norman manuscript. MS L (BL, Cotton Nero A.V) and MS O (Oxford, Merton College, 249), both AN, respectively give "truverez" and "tret" for this verse. Only the continental MS C (Copenhagen, Kongelige Bibl., Gamle Kungl. Saml. 8* 3466) presents "troez" for this verse and is used by the Best1 editor (cf Best1 p.133 n.1073). As a continental variant, the form troet accordinglt finds no place in AND2.
