guenchon (c.1290)

[vcd]

FEW:  'latte' (girnchoun) 23,9b Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF:  grenchoun G1315 DMF: TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:
grenchoun

This word appears in Bibbsworth, in contexts similar to genchour, guenchison and gwenchuron. Like genchour and guenchison, its derivation is obscure and its meaning can only be presumed with respect to its context and its Middle English gloss (latthe n.). The form girnchoun found in bibb owen 963 is a misreading of the manuscript and should be grenchoun.
