hurtonur (s.xivin)

[gdw]

FEW: Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF:  hurter (hurtonur) H744 DMF: TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:

The word hurtonur seems to be related to Latin hurtare, '(of ram) to tup', which DMLBS argues is derived from a Germanic root, citing Old Norse hrútr ('ram'): see ONP: Dictionary of Old Norse Prose under hrútr. See also Latin hurtaldus, hurtardus, and hurtus, all of which mean 'ram'.
