Normally pas¹ and pas² would be incorporated into a single entry, as they derive from the same etymon. However, as the semantic shift of pas to become a negative particle seems to have occurred prior to the Anglo-Norman period, resulting in a complete semantic separation between the two words, unlike with other negative particles, e.g. mie¹, which continued to primarily have the sense of 'a small item of no value', the two have been treated in separate entries.
