roel1 (s.xiii1)

[gdw]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF:  roe (roël); DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]
roule

Hostorium is a word usually glossed with (e)stric(le) (TLLii 72, 164, 166 and 172), radur (TLL ii 72) or rastre (TLL ii 101) – all of which mean ‘strickle’. The following two attestation have been defined accordingly, even though no plausible etymology (either from rota, ‘wheel’ cf. roe1, or rotula, ‘small wheel’ or ‘roll of parchment’, cf. roule1) presents itself.
