trumel (s.xiii2/4)

[hp+dd]

[FEW: 21,176a nénuphar (trimuau); Gdf: 8,100a trumel 3 /8,76a trimuau; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF:  craime (cremel) / trumel 2; DMF:  trimuau; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]
cremel (l. tremel?) crumel (l. trumel?)

With the origins of this word unclear, it is diffficult to tell whether the t- or the c- spelling is the correct one. The DEAFpré includes both cremel (see DEAF craime (cremel)) and trumel (see DEAF trumel 2). Godefroy records what seems to be an example of trumel with a botanic meaning in a fifteenth-century glossary from Bethune (see Gdf trumel 3, 8,100a). In addition, the word trimuau is recorded by Gdf (8,76a), DMF ( trimuau) and FEW (under unknown etymologies, nénuphar (trimuau)) with the sense of 'racine de nénuphar' ('water lily root'), and may be related to this trumel. In keeping with most cognate dictionaries, the AND treats this word as a t- entry.
