poseire (s.xiv4/4)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

This obscure vernacular word (which may as well be Middle English) glosses an equally problematic Latin term. The DMLBS defines dentaria as ‘(?) pellitory’ (DMLBS 612c), presumably on the basis of an alternative gloss piretrum, which has that sense (DMLBS pyrethrum 2592a).

s.

1bot.pellitory (?), Anacyclus pyretrum (the root of which was turned into a powder and used for medicinal purposes)
( MS: s.xiv4/4 )  Dentaria: (B3) poseire  100
