pucinant (s.xiii1)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: 9,528a pullicenus; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF:  poucin (poucinance); DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

pl. pucinanz

AND1’s interpretation of the word as a noun, pucinance (‘giving birth to young’, 564b), does not make sense in this Latin context, and derives from an incorrect interpretation of the -anz ending. The word is glossing a plural adjective, and, as it seems to be a hapax, may be mirrored after the more common Latin verb pullificare (DMLBS 2568c).
