recreer1 (1121-25)

[gdw]

[ FEW: 2/ii,1296b creare /10,161b recreare; Gdf: 6,693a recreer; GdfC: 10,507a recreer 1 /10,507a recreer 2; TL: 8,497 recrëer; DEAF:  recreer; DMF:  recréer / récréer; TLF:  recréer / récréer; OED:  recreate v.1 / recreate v.2; MED:  recreaten v.; DMLBS: 2686c recreare ]
rechrier,  recreier,  recrier

The reflexive use in Brut wace 976 is not entirely clear. The verb may also be interpreted as belonging to recrier1 (‘to beseech, cry for’), as indeed Keller sees it in his definition ‘redoubler de cris’ (p. 80). However, in this context the idea of an almost defeated army regrouping itself, i.e. ‘to recover control, strength’, is perhaps more plausible.
