termotryne

The first edition of the Anglo-Norman Dictionary interpreted this word as possibly a corrupt reading of turmentille (the plant ‘tormentil’). However, this seems unlikely, as the context suggest a synonym for Latin spodium (‘ash’ or ‘oxide of metal’) or something found in bales of ginger. It should be noted that there is no evidence that the term is Anglo-Norman, as most vernacular words in the Latin text of Pop Med 35 are English.
