penable (s.xiii)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: 9,115a poena; Gdf: 6,73b penable; GdfC: ; TL: 7,552 penable; DEAF:  peine 1 (penable); DMF:  penable; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

This word, which in the case of the Mir Just citation almost seems to be an ad hoc creation rather than a proper legal term, has a different sense in Anglo-Norman than in Continental French (‘pénible, difficile à supporter’). However, the corresponding adverb in Anglo-Norman, penablement, seems to use that sense.
