trenchivesouns (c.1325)

[gdw]

[FEW: *13/ii,280b *trinicare; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF:  trenchier 1 (*); DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

In Valentine’s earlier edition of the same text (Five Med MSS 43.C168) the word is transcribed as trenchinesouns. The manuscript reading is not free from ambiguity, but a reading of ‘v’ rather than ‘n’ seems more likely. Neither form seems to have any etymological grounds.
